What makes us tick... | Local Atmosphere | Culturally attuned ambience
Cherry Street Artisan is a unique, locally-owned, European-style arts café located at the corner of Ninth and Cherry Streets in downtown Columbia, Missouri. Its unique sidewalk/basement location puts the Artisan at the intersection of downtown business, arts, and university traffic, making it a place where you are likely to find a spectrum of community members throughout the day and night: from a writer working on her latest novel to a business meeting of local bankers; from a group of graduate students discussing a seminar to moms or dads taking a break with their children.
The Artisan is committed to helping the local community flourish. This value comes through in the people we hire, the art we feature, our approach to coffee, and in the food we make. For us the concept of “local” is not just another cute buzzword to be used as a marketing gimmick. Rather, it is what we truly value. We believe that the best way to help a community flourish is to work hard at cultivating a mindset and doing business that has the good of the community in mind. This means that we give preference, when possible, to locally produced food, drink, and art. Click here to read an important essay about the need to cultivate local community.
